Russell K. Skowronek has received the 2015 California Mission Studies Association Norman Neuerburg Award, given in recognition of outstanding contributions towards the study and preservation of California’s missions, presidios, pueblos, and ranchos. Skowronek’s recent work, Ceramic Production in Early Hispanic California, co-edited with M. James Blackman and Ronald L. Bishop, as well as his thirty-five years of contribution to scholarship on Spanish colonial and Mexican Republican California and broader New Spain, earned him this honor.

Choice named Basil A. Reid and R. Grant Gilmore’s Encyclopedia of Caribbean Archaeology2015 Choice Outstanding Academic Title, and “highly recommended” the book for academic/research libraries and natural/cultural history institutes and museums focusing on Caribbean/Latin American studies.

Bénédicte Boisseron’s Creole Renegades: Rhetoric of Betrayal and Guilt in the Caribbean Diaspora received the 2015 Nicolás Guillén Outstanding Book Award from the Caribbean Philosophical Association. The award is given to an outstanding book that contributes to Caribbean thought and philosophical literature.

The Association of Relatives of Executed and Missing Political Prisoners of Calama, the group of women featured in Flowers in the Desert: The Search for Chile’s Disappeared, by Paula Allen received 2014 Clyde Snow Social Justice Award, given to recognize the efforts of those who strive to restore the humanity and dignity of communities that have suffered human rights violations.

.Two of our books also made “best of” lists for 2014!

Zócalo Public Square included Fútbol!: Why Soccer Matters in Latin America by Joshua H. Nadel in its “10 Best Books We Read This Year” compilation.

Meanwhile, Beltway Poetry Quarterly’s Top Ten New Poetry Books of 2014 included Autoepitaph: Selected Poems by Reinaldo Arenas, edited by Camelly Cruz-Martes, and translated by Kelly Washbourne..
